  TUYA-CONVERT is a free-to-brand smart home solution offered by Tuya, a Chinese company. It allows users to easily select pre-designed products or pre-programmed wifi-modules (primarily ESP8266) through their web page. However, concerns about the claimed "military grade security" of Tuya's cloud solution were raised by Michael Steigerwald of VTRUST, a German IT security startup. VTRUST collaborated with the German tech magazine c't to develop an easy way for DIY smart home enthusiasts to free their devices from the cloud without soldering. TUYA-CONVERT provides the means to back up the original firmware and flash alternative firmware.
